Date last modified: 01 July 2019

Did you know that New Zealanders who entered Australia before 1st September 1994 were granted permanent residence automatically upon arrival?

Any New Zealander who visited Australia before 1st September 1994, even for a short holiday or as a child on their parent’s passport, can now reinstate their former PR with the resident return visa (RRV). The RRV application fee is $405.

New Zealanders must be residing in Australia in order to apply for RRV. Find out about New Zealanders eligibility for RRV.

If you are unsure of the first date you entered Australia you can request your travel records.

You can apply for citizenship after residing in Australia for 4 years, with at least the last year as permanent resident. The adult citizenship fee is $285, and the adult concession fee is $40.

Refer to Resident Return visa (subclasses 155 and 157) on the Department of Immigration website.
