Oz Kiwi statement on The Voice referendum

Oz Kiwi supports the referendum on the Australian Indigenous Voice to Parliament. We encourage all who have the right to vote to say Yes on 14 October 2023.

The Voice referendum proposes an amendment to the Constitution to establish an advisory body that would be known as the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice. This body would have the ability to make recommendations to the Parliament and executive government on matters that directly impact Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians.

New Zealand does not have a written Constitution like Australia, but has recognized Māori for over 180 years through the Treaty of Waitangi. Enshrining Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander rights in the Australian Constitution, and recognising them as the First Nations Peoples of Australia, is the first step towards reconciliation and justice.

Just as Oz Kiwi was your voice in Parliament on a fair pathway to citizenship, we ask our supporters who have become Australian citizens, or who will become a citizen before 14 October 2023, to support our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander brothers and sisters by voting “yes”. Use your voice at the Referendum ballot box on 14 October 2023 to build a fairer and more just Australia.
