18 October 2017
Australian Citizenship Legislation Amendment Bill (2017) has been struck down in the Senate.
18 October 2017
The Government's Citizenship Amendment Bill (2017) was formally discharged from the Senate Order of Business/Notice Paper at 7.22 pm AEST today.
Oz Kiwi can now confirm that current citizenship law applies.
A big thanks to all who opposed the Bill, including:
- the Australian Greens, especially Senator Nick McKim who introduced the Motion to strike down the Bill;
- Labor, especially Tony Burke MP for his advocacy work and Senator Malarndirri McCarthy who seconded the Motion; and
- the Nick Xenophon Team.
Thanks also to all the organisations and their supporters, especially Oz Kiwis, who wrote and spoke out against the Bill. This result is very much a collective effort.
