ALP support citizenship for all New Zealanders
The Australian Labor Party National Platform outlines the party's policies for the 2022 Federal Election. It was adopted at the 2021 Special Platform Conference and contains two policies support New Zealanders.
Both ALP policies were first ratified in July 2015. One supporting a fair pathway to citizenship for all New Zealanders residing in Australia, and one ensuring no migrant is permanently temporary. Both policies are outlined below.

Chapter 1: Building Australia's Prosperity
Building a stronger nation through migration (page 14)
88. Labor will ensure that no migrant is 'permanently temporary'. We will align the permanent and temporary migration programs and ensure that, where appropriate, migrants have pathways to permanent visas and citizenship. We will encourage temporary visa holders to consider permanent residency where the visa holders are working under successful arrangements and have priority skills which are in shortage in Australia.

05. Labor believes that there is an inequity for New Zealand citizens living in Australia under the terms of the Trans-Tasman Travel Arrangements (TTTA). Labor will consider the permanent residency status and potential citizenship arrangements for New Zealand citizens living in Australia under the terms of the TTTA.
