Temporary COVID19 Disaster Payment
03 June 2021
The Australian government have announced a temporary COVID19 disaster payment for people who suffer a loss of income due to a snap lockdown in the states or territories.
The new payment will help workers who are unable to earn income due to Covid19 lockdown restrictions. Please note that it does not cover the first seven days of the lockdown, however this has been waived for some lockdowns.
For each payment period eligible workers will receive either:
- $325 if you’ve lost 20 hours or less of work
- $500 if you’ve lost 21 hours or more of work.
You cannot claim the COVID19 Disaster Payment if you’re receiving income support payments, a Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment or business support payments.
You must meet all of the following:
- be an Australian resident, permanent resident or eligible working visa holder
- live or work in a Commonwealth declared hotspot
- be unable to work and earn income as a result of a state lockdown
- be where the lockdown is for more than seven days.
Applicants are no longer required to have liquid assets of $10,000 or less.
You need to have used up other pandemic state based entitlements and all leave entitlements except annual leave.
How to claim
Non-protected Special Category visa-holders must phone Centrelink on 180 22 66 to claim the Covid19 Disaster Payment.
Protected Special Category visa-holders can apply for the payment online by linking their Centrelink online account to myGov.
