6.6 earthquake south-east of Hanmer Springs

The earthquake has since been revised to a magnitude 7.8.

To our New Zealand friends, whanau and supporters, please take care. And to our Oz/Kiwis here in Australia, please lots of positive thoughts and prayers for those in New Zealand. Geonet has reports of a 6.6 magnitude earthquake that has struck 20 km south-east of Hanmer Springs.

It described the quake, felt through much of the country, as very large.

The quake struck at 12.02 am Monday 14th November and is officially rated as severe.

Many people from as far as Wellington, Dunedin, Hamilton and even Auckland felt the quake.

New Zealand Civil Defence just tweeted that it is “assessing [the] situation with assistance of scientific advisors and civil defence groups”.

Thoughts and prayers from the Oz Kiwi Team.
