Are Kiwis in Australia getting a rough deal?

ABC’s Triple J Hack program tonight had a half hour panel discussion on New Zealander’s visa rights and immigration issues.

Host Tom Tilly interviewed two New Zealanders residing in Australia about the problems they have faced with trying to enlist in the Australian Defence Force and not being able to get a HELP loan.

In the second half of the program Tilly spoke to two Kiwis currently in immigration detention (facing deportation) about their situation. And in something of a coup interviewed Australian Immigration Minister Peter Dutton about the deportation process. Tilly also interviewed New Zealand Labour Corrections spokesman Kelvin Davis plus Helen Murphy from a Christchurch prisoner aid agency on the effect of deportation on Kiwis and their whanau.
