Ex-judge compares Aust’s treatment of NZers with Nazis

Oscar Kightley certainly ruffled a few feathers when he likened Australia to a ‘dodgy racist neighbour’ over its treatment of refugees.

Now, a former justice of the Supreme Court of Victoria has gone quite a few steps further and likened Australia’s treatment of both asylum seekers and New Zealanders in detention to the action of Nazi Germany.

Stephen Charles was particularly critical of the conditions of detention, the holding of detainees in remote locations away from family and lawyers, and the detention of people who had been charged with no crime or who had been granted bail.
