200,000 New Zealanders live in Australia without a helping hand

A good piece by Paul Hamer of Victoria University of Wellington on the new ‘pathway to citizenship’ for New Zealanders announced earlier this year.

This pathway is a significant step forward, however, it is by no means the solution to the problems that have emerged since 2001.

The inclusion of an income threshold means many will be excluded and still have no ability to gain citizenship, no access to working age social security or disability support, and limited educational and career options.
While we welcome every advance, our fight is by no means over!
