Only half of post-2001 arrivals eligible under new pathway

Permanent visa New Zealanders

While today’s announcement gives some people more options, which is a good thing, it is by no means the solution to the problems caused by the 2001 changes.

Many Kiwis (including most of those hardest hit by current policies) will gain nothing under this policy.

It also introduces yet another cut-off date – 19 February 2016. Anyone who arrives after today will not benefit from this policy, not matter how long they live in Australia or how much they earn.

We will continue working for a more comprehensive solution – one that will be permanent and will not leave tens of thousands of hardworking Kiwis behind.
