Superannuation Guarantee Amendment Bill 2015

Update

25 June 2015

The Superannuation Guarantee (Administration) Amendment Act 2015 came into effect from 25 June 2015. Schedule 1 – Temporary residents includes the clause regarding Temporary Residents not being able to choose their own super fund. While this could impact New Zealanders, many employers are likely to allow them a choice of super fund because they can reside in Australia indefinitely.

Please seek professional financial advice or contact your union about your rights.

A Bill that has been introduced to the Federal Parliament would have the effect of stripping New Zealanders in Australia of their right to choose their own super fund.

If the Bill is passed, employers would be able to nominate a super fund for New Zealand citizen employees without giving those employees any option to choose their own fund.

The Bill is currently being considered by the Senate Economics Legislation Committee. We encourage you to contact them and note your concerns about the Superannuation Guarantee (Administration) Amendment Bill 2015:
